Spring majored in Graphic Design and was in the design industry for over 15 years with transition to Real Estate agent on Maui when her family moved to Maui. Working as a real estate agent visiting and over seeking properties came naturally to her. As she saw the need for Home Watch industry, she decided to pursue them in a more professional way with getting her National Home Watch certified license, insurance and bonded.
Spring Lee and her husband, Shawn Kim, were both born in South Korea, less than 150 miles away from each other. Yet they never met on Korean soil. No one could have guessed how destiny would bring them together - years later, and over 4,600 miles away, on the little Pacific island of Maui.
When Spring was 10 years old, her parents made the decision to move their family to Stanton, Southern California. The year was 1987. “It was extremely scary not knowing the language or the culture, and trying to get settled into a new environment…” Spring recalls. “I was very lucky to meet a wonderful teacher in elementary school to guide me, and to see my talent in art. Her name was Mrs. Hatch. She had a great passion for teaching, and wanted her students to succeed in their special gifts and talents.” Not only did Mrs. Hatch help Spring gain admittance to GATE (Gifted and Talented Education), a program which provides funding to develop unique education opportunities for gifted students, she also connected Spring with art classes that her family could not afford.
Spring’s father, a small-business owner back in South Korea, began a new career when they moved to the United States. He began to paint commercial and government buildings, bringing his trademark attitude to every new project: diligent, careful, and conscientious. “My dad is a very humble person,” Spring says with quiet pride. “He worked very hard all of his life for our family.” Her father wasn’t the only member of the family to switch gears in their newly adopted country. “My mom studied child development when we moved. She worked full-time and went to college after work to get her degree. She is a very hardworking, loving, and devoted person. Oh, and extremely neat!” Spring laughs. Today, her parents live in Los Alamitos, California, not too far from Spring’s older brothers Joe and Steve, who live with their own families and children in Irvine and San Francisco.
Spring says she started working at a very young age with babysitting, at grocery stores, restaurants, department stores, coffee shops, as an after-school teacher’s assistant, tutor and more. Bringing this same determination and drive to her ongoing education, she majored in graphic design at the Otis College of Art and Design and quickly began a successful career in media and graphic design for over 15 years.
Meanwhile, Shawn, born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, was following his own life trajectory that would eventually lead him to his wife. After finishing school in South Korea, Shawn moved to the island of O’ahu to study hotel management at the University of Hawai’i. Later, Shawn transferred to California State University in Fullerton, California, to major in business. This is where he would meet Spring.
As the years passed by, their little family grew and they had a son, Elisha. Shawn spent time in the army, serving for three years, and traveled all over the States for his job as sales manager for Contech Diamond Tools. But he always dreamed of returning to Hawai’i, drawn by the magnetic pull of the islands as so many of us are. When a work opportunity opened in 2015, the family didn’t hesitate to bravely uproot their lives all over again and replant themselves on the shores of Maui. “That is when I got into real estate and met so many nice wonderful people on Maui!” Spring exclaims exuberantly. “I love people, and the energy that I get working with good people. It’s an exciting job.”
Their son, Elisha, joins his mother in having a deep love for people and is also a gifted student, making both of his parents very proud. An 11th grader attending Baldwin high, Elisha keeps himself busy as a member of JROTC, volunteering annually at the Special Olympics, school work and playing his electric guitar. He also loves Traxxas remote control race cars, a passion he shares with his father. “They always take their Traxxas car when we go for a walk around the neighborhood, or go to watch sunset at Kam 3 (her husband’s favorite spot).
Their family lives happily in central Maui in Wailuku, where “a love of the ocean, beautiful sunsets, convenient location, beaches to walk on, and dozens of favorite local restaurants” are just a few of the reasons they cherish where they live. Spring’s passion for art continues today through her enjoyment of graphic design, paper sculpting, visiting museums, and appreciation of architecture. Together, the family practices the martial art of Judo - Shawn is a 2nd degree black belt, Elisha is a blue belt, and Spring is a beginner “doing little roles on the mat when they practice.” If you see Spring, Shawn, and Elisha around Maui, be sure to say Aloha and “Anyeong haseyo” (pronounced ahn-yo ha-say-yoh, meaning “hello” in Korean)!
After intensive research, Spring have discovered that many resort communities say they offer home care services, but almost always contract the work out to various cleaning companies or real estate brokerage firms. Neither one of those entities have the staff or the knowledge to properly care for your property.
